I was born in a small town called Greenock in Scotland. I left home at an early age to travel round the world and have adventures. I worked as a pool waiter, a chicken farmer, a door to door salesman, a grouse beater and a ghost tour guide. The picture on the left is me at 18, working on a kibbutz, chopping lots of vegetables for 600 people. Then I returned to Scotland to study Philosophy at Aberdeen University. I've always known that I wanted to be a writer. I've written plays, comedy sketches for TV, and about half a dozen novels that will never see the light of day. Nowadays I mostly write fiction and non-fiction for young people.
I live in the heart of the Perthshire countryside with my family, and when I'm not writing you can generally find me hanging out with my young daughter, Isla, in local swing parks, picnic spots and the public library.
